I used the QB Kraftz ice maker but I still got bubbles or cloudy ice. Why is this?
There are a few different reasons why you may not be getting crystal-clear ice. First, make sure that you are boiling the water and letting it cool. Some people claim that boiling it twice will ensure even clearer ice.
If the freezer is set too cold or the QB Kraftz unit is too close to the cooling vent, this may also be a cause. This is because the long, slow freezing that is made possible by the QB Kraftz’s insulated design is not being put to proper use. Remember, the optimum freezer temperature for crystal-clear ice is -15°C (5°F). The optimum freezing time under these conditions is roughly 36 hours.
If your big ice balls (the Baby Alien ones) are clear but the drip tray at the bottom is cloudy or bubbly, that’s normal. The ice there is no worse than the ice up top in terms of flavor or smell, but isn’t meant to look as good. You can still use it so as not to waste it.

I can’t get the ice to become unstuck. - We recommend letting the QB Kraftz rest for up to 10 minutes so the ice can loosen itself from the molds. If you’re using the spherical molds, you can be a little bit more “aggressive” in removing the ice by twisting it with a bit more force to get it out sooner. The drip tray at the bottom may also be stuck for a bit longer, so it’s best to be patient for that.
If you are in a hurry, you can run some water over the mold to speed up the defrosting process.

How many different shapes are there? - Other than this amazing Baby Alien mold, QB Kraftz comes in a variety of shapes, from different sports, movies, flowers, and everything in between. This lets you have fun with your drinks, instead of having boring, lame ice cubes floating lazily in your scotch. Currently, we have 13 shapes in production and there are hundreds of new ideas being brainstormed every month, so the possibilities are endless!

How do I clean my QB Kraftz? - The insulation layer should not need to be cleaned, but if you spill something on it or feel it’s dirty, you can wipe it down with a wet cloth and air dry it. The silicone molds can be washed with soap and water or can be put in the dishwasher without damaging them.
-
Is QB Kraftz safe? - Yes, the silicone used by QB Kraftz is FDA-approved and certified to be 100% food-grade.
-
What else can I do with QB Kraftz? - If you want, you can freeze other liquids to make juice cubes in the summer or coffee cubes for that perfect iced coffee. You can even pop in frozen berries or fruit to add a subtle but delicious flavor to your drinks.
-
How many layers of QB Kraftz can I stack? - You can easily stack as many layers as will fit in your freezer to make ice for an entire party if you want.
-
Doesn't ice dilute drinks? - If used improperly, yes, but with QB Kraftz, you get larger chunks of pure ice, meaning it melts at a far slower rate, allowing you to enjoy your drink at a consistently cool temperature without having to rush. And, the best mixologists know that a little bit of water from slowly-melting ice opens up the spirit and its related flavors.
-
Is it easy to use? - Yes, QB Kraftz is just as easy to use as the boring plastic “depression-era” technology that we’ve been stuck with for years. All you need to do is choose your favorite mold, and pop it into the freezing bar, and pour fresh water through the specialized filter holes.
